7/24/15 vs. Sanford River Rats: Pregame Quotes and Notes

Leesburg, Florida — The Leesburg Lightning host the Sanford River Rats tonight at Pat Thomas Stadium in game two of the three-game set. First pitch is at 7:00pm.

Sanford got the best of Leesburg last night as they scored nine runs on 12 hits while shutting out the Lightning offense.

Call Graham (Santa Fe) takes the mound tonight and has a big task ahead of him.

“Call needs to mix his pitches well,” head coach Rich Billings said. “He needs to be able to throw his off speed for strikes and if he can do that, he will be able to keep them off balance a little bit. That is the key against a good hitting team.”

The Leesburg offense had trouble last night stringing hits together — especially with runners in scoring position.

“We need to do a better job with runners in scoring position and our hitters know that,” Billings said. “You can set them up to succeed but in the end, they’re the ones that have to do it.”

Billings also mentioned that at some point soon, we will be seeing a three-man rotation on the mound as well as a two-man rotation behind the plate.

Billings’ Key Points

-We have to take one from these guys and go into tomorrow with some momentum

-Winning series are HUGE right now

-We are at home, let’s get the ‘W’
