LEESBURG, Fla. — We are now in the month of August so wipe the slate clean, kind of…the Leesburg Lightning have had their ups and downs throughout the season and their momentum HAS to carry over tonight and for the rest of the season. Yes, Leesburg has played very well against the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs but they are a tough team. If you’re not here, come on out to Pat Thomas. First pitch is slated for 7:00pm.
Tonight is the final regular season home game at Pat Thomas, it’s something special for everyone. Lightning head coach Rich Billings knows that.
“Glad to be playing here,” Billings said. “The more games that we can play home will help us.”
The Lightning offense found themselves last night — scoring nine runs on 12 hits in a 9-2 rout over the Diamond Dawgs. That needs to continue.
“It seems like if we hit early, we are good,” Billings said. “Hopefully we string some hits together early and put runs together for Darren.”
Darren Kelly (Alabama State) takes the mound for Leesburg tonight. He needs to continue what he has done all season — being consistent.
“He has been very consistent,” Billings said. “Even in the time he has struggled, he hasn’t been bad. I expect him to be solid and around the plate.”
Billings’ Key Points
-We have to win tonight
-We need to end the regular season at home on a positive night
-It’s important that we play well in front of our home crowd tonight and get them excited for the playoffs
